Journey Level Maintenance Electrician

The Seattle Times Company, the Northwest leader in print and online media, seeks a full Journey Level Maintenance Electrician at its North Creek facility (Bothell, WA). The job includes preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of production electrical equipment and support systems with the goal of providing support to all areas of production. Maintain and repair a broad scope of machinery and equipment. Analyze problems, implement solutions, design and fabricate assemblies as needed to ensure timely repairs and a smooth running operation on newspaper press machinery, packaging equipment, building wiring, AC and DC motors, and battery powered equipment such as pallet trucks and forklifts. 


  • Associates degree or 4 year apprenticeship in industrial electrical/electronics preferred; HS Diploma or GED required. 
  •  Full knowledge of electrical code relative to conduit work, wiring specification and compliance matters helpful. 
  •  Previous newspaper printing and packaging equipment experience is required.
  •  Strong mechanical aptitude; the ability to analyze and quickly resolve problems and consistently meet deadlines is required. 
  •  The ability to climb, bend, stoop, and carry up to 50 pounds, carry tools and parts up several flights of stairs or ladders and work from personnel lifts. Environment includes paper, dust and noise. 
  •  Must have the ability to work in confined areas covered with ink and dirt. Candidate must have the ability to work with contractors, engineers, and vendors regarding the upgrade and/or installation of electrical equipment. 
  •  Computer literacy and good verbal/written communication skills needed. 

SHIFT: Flexibility to work a 40 hour, undetermined 24/7 schedule, nights required.
COMPENSATION: DOE, $28.00-32.00 range/hourly rate; Pension contribution available; Great benefits available.

This includes Imaging, Pressroom, and Packaging; while maintaining a safe working environment, training, and control of an annual budget. Mailroom Operator

Tulsa World, a BH Media company, is seeking two Packaging and Distribution (Mailroom) Operators. The Mailroom Operator would be responsible to oversee the packaging operation and employees. The operator must maintain a safe working environment while providing a quality product to our customer within the established deadlines needed by the company.  This individual would operate packaging equipment in production workflow, set up and run all inserting and downline equipment used in the packaging operation and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues and repairs to meet established deadlines.


  • Establish packaging operation for both day-side and night-side including opening/closing procedures. Generate crew assignments for feeding, stacking and setting up hoppers and provide training to those individuals unfamiliar with the insert machines. Setup, verify and run the inserting machines.
  • Work with the Packaging Supervisors to ensure all areas are covered for manpower, supplies, etc. Ensure that inserts and finished product are complete, accurate and meet quality standards.  Make sure all insert packages are checked and correct.
  • Must be familiar with Hieldelberg 630, Burt and NewsCom systems.
  • Direct packaging staff.  Based upon knowledge of individual employees’ skills and abilities, use your independent judgment to place employees in positions, adjust their positions, and otherwise assign the employees to produce the best quality product.
  • Setting up and running all insert machines used in the assembly of the finished product.  Alert the packaging supervisory team to any major system problems so they may be addressed quickly.
  • Get all products loaded and to the dock on time.
  • Must be able to run all equipment in the mailroom.
  • Verify bottom wrap printing.


Ability to follow all Company policies and procedures including but not limited to attendance standards.
Be able to lift 15 to 20 pounds

High school diploma or GED desired.
Two Years experience as an operator or equivalent job knowledge. Supervisory experience preferred.

Journey Level Machinist

The building of specialized equipment, installation of new equipment, and the manufacturing of accessories for existing equipment. 

  • Proficient in the operation of general manual machine shop equipment lathes, drills, mills, and grinders. (No CNC).
  • Provide maintenance support to all areas of production.
  • Analyze problems, implement solutions, and manufacture parts as needed to ensure timely repairs and a smooth running operation.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a broad scope of machinery and equipment.
  • Excellent time management skills, the ability to prioritize and complete projects.
  • Complete tasks as directed with minimal supervision.
  • Adhere to all company and safety policies and guidelines.
  • Strong manual hand dexterity and mechanical ability.
  • Must provide machinist and hand tools.
  • Must be able to stand on ladders and scaffolding and work from heights.
  • Maintain professional appearance/demeanor and positive attitude.
  • To work effectively with co-workers in solving problems and to communicate problems from shift to shift.


  • Journey level machinist or equal experience. 
  • Proficient use of lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and other shop related tools and equipment.
  • Computer literacy and ability to clearly communicate information, both verbal and written.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Welding and fabrication.
  • Individual with newspaper press and packaging experience.
  • Experience in rebuilding pumps, motors and gearboxes.

SHIFT: 40 hours per week; undetermined 24/7 schedule.
