Circulation Manager


Home to Arkansas Tech University and 40,000-acre Lake Dardanelle, The Courier in Russellville is seeking an experienced circulation manager. The Courier is a six-day-a-week (Tues.-Sun.) morning paper with a compliment of niche publications and a carrier delivered full market TMC.

The ideal candidate won't be afraid to roll up their sleeves as needed and should possess strong skills in distribution operations, marketing and customer service, with a focus on retaining and growing home delivery subscribers and increasing single copy sales. 
Experience in managing a team of contracted carriers and the ability to use software including CirculationPro (or similar) and Excel spreadsheets is required. 3-5 years circulation experience is preferred.
This position as part of The Courier's management team is open due to the retirement of our longtime manager.

Maintenance Machinist

Job Summary
This position is responsible for repairing mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and making precision adjustments to all production equipment.  Uses gas, arc, TIG and MIG welding equipment, troubleshoots hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Installs new equipment and makes modifications.  Perform mechanical disassembly and reassembly of intricate machines in production departments.  Conduct preventative maintenance on all production equipment and support the press production of the newspaper by maintaining commercial press equipment.  Press production is a 7 day a week 365 days per year operation. Hourly rate is $30.45 (union position).  40 hour work week, 3rd shift, includes weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Two year degree from trade school in machinist or millwright program and /or five years’ experience as a maintenance machinist or millwright.
  • Prefer 2-year machinist certificate. Welding certificate a plus.
  • Printing related work experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a deadline and high volume-driven environment requiring problem solving and multi-tasking skills.

Journey Level Maintenance Electrician


The Seattle Times Company, the Northwest leader in print and online media, seeks a full Journey Level Maintenance Electrician at its North Creek facility (Bothell, WA). The job includes preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of production electrical equipment and support systems with the goal of providing support to all areas of production. Maintain and repair a broad scope of machinery and equipment. Analyze problems, implement solutions, design and fabricate assemblies as needed to ensure timely repairs and a smooth running operation on newspaper press machinery, packaging equipment, building wiring, AC and DC motors, and battery powered equipment such as pallet trucks and forklifts. 

Requirements

  • Associates degree or 4 year apprenticeship in industrial electrical/electronics preferred; HS Diploma or GED required. 
  •  Full knowledge of electrical code relative to conduit work, wiring specification and compliance matters helpful. 
  •  Previous newspaper printing and packaging equipment experience is required.
  •  Strong mechanical aptitude; the ability to analyze and quickly resolve problems and consistently meet deadlines is required. 
  •  The ability to climb, bend, stoop, and carry up to 50 pounds, carry tools and parts up several flights of stairs or ladders and work from personnel lifts. Environment includes paper, dust and noise. 
  •  Must have the ability to work in confined areas covered with ink and dirt. Candidate must have the ability to work with contractors, engineers, and vendors regarding the upgrade and/or installation of electrical equipment. 
  •  Computer literacy and good verbal/written communication skills needed. 

 
SHIFT: Flexibility to work a 40 hour, undetermined 24/7 schedule, nights required.

Star Tribune has a great opportunity to join our production management staff.  As a Mailroom Shift Manager you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day inserting and packaging operations of Star Tribune, as well as participating in the on-going strategic direction of the operation.

A key area of focus will be placed on working with other shift managers to provide work direction, performance management and determine daily-staffing needs based on packaging requirements.  The position is also responsible for implementing new technologies and processes in pursuit of consistent quality, increased efficiency and reduced costs.   A successful Mailroom Shift Manager will be part of the production leadership team and maintains a respectful and effective relationship with union leadership, and working with other manufacturing department leader to provide overall leadership throughout the operation.

Qualified candidates will have demonstrated strong leadership in a production, packaging or distribution environment, with proven ability to motivate, coach and provide direction to a diverse work group.   The position requires excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to multi-task and respond quickly to changing business needs in a manufacturing environment

Requirements & Education: The Mailroom shift manager must have a bachelor’s degree in business, distribution or manufacturing operations or equivalent experience.   • Adhere to all company and safety policies and guidelines.
  • Strong manual hand dexterity and mechanical ability.
  • Must provide machinist and hand tools.
  • Must be able to stand on ladders and scaffolding and work from heights.
  • Maintain professional appearance/demeanor and positive attitude.
  • To work effectively with co-workers in solving problems and to communicate problems from shift to shift.

Requirements

  • Journey level machinist or equal experience. 
  • Proficient use of lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and other shop related tools and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Welding and fabrication.
  • Individual with newspaper press and packaging experience.
  • Experience in rebuilding pumps, motors and gearboxes.
